Christina Hendricks is an American actress, perhaps best known for playing the role of Joan Holloway in Mad Men.
Childhood & Early Acting Experience: Christina Hendricks was born in Knoxville, Tennessee and was raised in Twin Falls, Idaho. Her father is British, so she holds dual American / British nationality.
Hendricks' acting career started as a youngster in Twin Falls, where she joined the Junior Musical Playhouse Company, performing in productions of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Grease. The Hendricks family moved to Fairfax, Virginia in 1989 and Hendricks performed in a number of local community plays, as well as productions at Fairfax High School.
Acting Career: Christina Hendricks has appeared in a number of television series, starting out with a regular appearance in Beggars and Choosers, which starred Beau Bridges. She also appeared in The Big Time and The Court, opposite Sally Field and Craig Bierko. This was followed by an appearance in Kevin Hill, a legal drama featuring Jon Seda.
Hendricks has also had recurring roles in ER (which, over the years, has starred George Clooney and Noah Wyle) and Firefly (featuring Adam Baldwin and Gina Torres.
In 2007, Christina Hendricks and Gina Torres shared screen time together again, in the independent film South of Pico, which also featured Kip Pardue. The same year, Hendricks starred in La Cucina, along with Joaquim de Almeida and Rachel Hunter.
Hendricks has also starred in music videos for Broken Bells ('The Ghost Inside') and Everclear ('One Hit Wonder').
The role for which Hendricks is best known, however, is her performance as Joan Holloway in Mad Men. In the show, her character is the office manager of an advertising agency, Sterling Cooper. Mad Men also stars Jon Hamm, Elisabeth Moss and Jared Harris. In 2009, Hendricks won the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series for Mad Men. Much has been made of her curvaceous figure since she started appearing in Mad Men. Despite being recognizable for her red hair, Hendricks is actually a natural blonde and has dyed her hair since the age of 10.
In 2010, Christina Hendricks was cast alongside Carey Mulligan and Ryan Gosling in Drive, an action-thriller directed by Nicolas Winding.
Personal Life: Christina Hendricks married the actor Geoffrey Arend in 2009.
