Childhood: Emilia Clarke was born in London to a businesswoman and a theatre sound engineer. Clarke grew up in Berkshire with her younger brother, where she developed a love of acting at the age of three, when she saw the play 'Show Boat' which her father was working on at the time. Clarke studied at Rye St Antony School and St Edward's School in Oxford, before moving on to study at Drama Centre London, and graduating in 2009.
Career: While studying in London, Emilia Clarke landed a series of small film, television and stage roles, and a television commercial for the Samaritans charity. In 2009, she appeared in an episode of 'Doctors', before appearing in the SyFy television film 'Triassic Attack'. In that same year, she was cast in the role of Daenerys Targaryen in 'Game of Thrones' - the HBO television adaptation of George R. R. Martin's 'A Song of Ice and Fire' series of novels - after actress Tamzin Merchant left the project for undisclosed reasons.
Following the 2011 airing of 'Game of Thrones', the series became one of the most successful series of all time. In 2013, Clarke was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her work on 'Game of Thrones' and the 65th Primetime Emmy Awards.
