Patty Schemel is known to many as the drummer in Hole from 1992 to 1996. Born in Seattle, she formed Kill Sybil at the age of fifteen with her brother. Five years later, she joined the all-girl punk group Doll Squad. In 1990, she was the first choice of drummer for Nirvana, after Chad Channing left the band. After Dave Grohl's audition, however, she became the second choice but after that, Kurt and Patty became close friends.
Patty joined Hole after the departure of original drummer Caroline Rue. She recorded her drum parts for Hole's second - and most successful - studio album, Live Through This. She entered the studio to begin work on Celebrity Skin but left the band shortly afterwards.
Using footage that was shot by Patty herself, we see the drummer getting caught up in the death of Kurt Cobain; her addiction to alcohol and drugs which nearly killed her, and her slow recovery. Now, Patty runs a dog walking business with her wife.
Hit So Hard is directed by P. David Ebersole and also features women drummers, such as The Bangles' Debbi Peterson; Alice De Buhr of Fanny and Izzy of Care Bears on Fire.
