Childhood: Jessica Chastain was brought up in Northern California. She lived with her vegan chef mother and fireman stepfather. She attended El Camino High School in Sacramento, Sacramento City College and later the Juilliard School in New York City as part of the Drama Division's Group which was funded for her by a Robin Williams scholarship. She graduated with a B.F.A. degree.
Acting career: Jessica Chastain's first TV appearance was on the pilot for the TV series 'Dark Shadows' in 2004. She has since appeared in episodes of 'ER', 'Veronica Mars', 'Law & Order: Trial By Jury' and 'Agatha Christie's Poirot'. In 2008, she had her first film role as the titular character in 'Jolene' based on the Dolly Parton song. 2011 became a prolific year for the star as she appeared in films such as 'The Tree of Life', 'Texas Killing Fields', 'Take Shelter', 'The Debt' as well as 'The Help' which landed her with an Oscar nomination and has grossed around $205,320,611 worldwide. In 2012 she was named on Time 100's 'most influential people in the world'. She was also selected as the ambassador for the Yves Saint Laurent fragrance Manifesto and was invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. 2012 also saw her appear in Ralph Fiennes' 'Coriolanus', 'Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted' as the voice of Gia the jaguar, the film adaptation of Oscar Wilde's 'Salome' and 'Lawless'. She became the first actress in half a century to have the leading role in the top two box office movies when she starred in historic drama 'Zero Dark Thirty' and horror flick 'Mama'.
Personal Life: Jessica Chastain is a vegan with strong feelings on animal rights. She owns a three legged rescue dog named Chaplin and lives in NoHo, Manhattan.
