Lykke Li follows up 'NO HOTEL', the lead track from her forthcoming album, with the a second single - 'HIGHWAY TO YOUR HEART'. The 'I Follow Rivers' singer will release her "immersive audiovisual album", 'EYEYE', an album recorded in her bedroom in Los Angeles, on May 20th.
'EYEYE' is Lykke Li's first album in four years and follows 'so sad so sexy', released in June 2018. The new record sees Li reunite with her longtime collaborator Björn Yttling. Swedish music producer, songwriter, and musician Yttling produced Lykke Li's first three albums - 'Youth Novels', 'Wounded Rhymes' and 2014's, 'I Never Learn'.
'EYEYE', is says Li's press statement, Lykke's "attempt to compress a lifetime of romantic obsession and female fantasy into a hyper sensory landscape. There were no click-tracks, no headphones, and no digital instruments. The vocals were recorded on a handheld $70 [£53] drum mic, often in the moment of composition, giving the lyrics the still-beating sound of fresh heartbreak being whispered into your ear."
When talking about the album herself Lykke said - "I wanted the record to have the intimacy of listening to a voice memo on a macro dose of LSD".
Li's latest album, her fifth, also comes with a series of short films and videos shot by director Theo Lindquist and cinematographer Edu Grau. Li said that they - "wanted to capture the beauty and grandeur of a three-hour European arthouse movie, while making something native to modern media. The intention is to deliver the full impact of a movie in sixty seconds on a phone screen, which is where most of our emotional experiences happen now anyway."
Following the release of her next album Lykke Li will embark on a short, six stop October tour, taking in Stockholm, Copenhagen, Amsterdam, London, Berlin, and finally Paris.
