Maisie Williams has filmed her first ever sex scene. The 18-year-old actress is best known for playing Arya Stark in Game of Thrones. Whilst Game of Thrones features some pretty explicit scenes, Williams’ character has yet to appear in one. However, in her soon-to-be-released film, The Falling, her character is embroiled in a steamy sex scene but, according to Williams, it wasn’t at all erotic to shoot.

“It was extremely awkward!” Williams revealed, as Vulture reports.

Fortunately, Williams’ co-star, Joe Cole, was understanding and knew she’d never done a scene of a sexual nature before. They also prepared for their scene by getting to know one another off screen.

“Joe [Cole] was very sensitive to the fact that I had never done a scene like this before,” Williams revealed. “And it was great to work with someone who was so considerate of that.”

“We went out for a couple of lunches and stuff just to get to know each other, and we had days of rehearsal where we’d get to know our characters and spend a couple of hours with each other,” Williams said.

Williams plays Lydia in The Falling, which is set at an all-girls school in 1960s England. Written and directed by Carol Morley, the film centres on Lydia’s obsession with another girl’s sexual awakening.

The film also follows Lydia’s relationship with her estranged mother, played by Silk actress Maxine Peake. Whilst Williams had a decent relationship with Cole, she didn’t become at all close to Peake and revealed the strange reason why in the interview.

“Carol [Morley], our director, told Maxine not to communicate with me and to keep her distance, so she wouldn't create a relationship with me - because within the story, our characters don't have a relationship,” Williams revealed.

“But Carol hadn't told me she was going to do this! So here I am, trying to make contact with Maxine every single day, trying to make it work, and her never giving anything back. I'd be like, "How was your day?" and she'd be like, "Mmmm," and walk away. Throughout the shoot I was so miserable because I thought she hated me.”
