While the new trailer has given away little secrets, fans are freaking out in anticipation for ‘The Force Awakens’.
On Monday evening the new trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens hit and the internet nearly broke, thanks to the reactions of excited fans. The new clip is our third look at the upcoming film, but this trailer is by far the most interesting for fans, even if it gives little away.
Han Solo and Chewbacca in Star Wars: The Force Awakens
Newcomer Daisy Ridley is heavily featured as Rey, a scavenger who is thought to be the daughter of Han Solo and Princess Leia. The actress herself was just as emotional as the franchises’ legion of fans on Monday, while watching the trailer from her bed.
In a video upload to Instagram, Ridley is seen freaking out breaking down in tears as she watches the clip. It’s not hard to understand why, as the movie is her first ever feature film. The actress captioned the video of her freak out, “totally emotional seeing it for the first time and so so so incredibly awed to be part of this incredible legacy.”

Another new character getting some screen time in the trailer was John Boyega’s Finn, a Stormtrooper who appears to have a change of heart and joins the rebels. Boyega also shared a video of his reaction to the trailer on Instagram, showing him repeatedly nodding his head and saying “yeah” and then breaking down into hysterics.

The trailer also showed the familiar face of Harrison Ford as Han Solo (accompanied by Chewbacca) and a brief glimpse of Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia. But one character who was noticeably absent was Mark Hamill's Luke Skywalker, who fans are still waiting to get a look at.

Adam Driver’s villain Kylo Ren, was also shown, looking and sounding nothing like the ‘Girls’ actor. His character appears to be a Darth Vader fanboy, who hopes to continue his evil legacy. Lupita Nyong'o who plays pirate Maz Kanata, was also not seen but her voice could be heard, but there’s been speculation that the building we see covered in flags could be her home.
Excitement over the new trailer helped The Force Awakens smash advance ticket records in both the US and the UK, with many early screenings being completely sold out already. IMAX reported that it took $6.5m in ticket sales on a single day for the film, having never made more than $1m in 24 hours previously.
