British Actress Olivia Cooke Has Cleared Up Reports Suggesting She Perfected Her American Accent By Mimicking Reality Tv Star Kim Kardashian, Insisting Her Comments Have Been Twisted By The Media.
The 21 year old previously tried to adopt an American accent for her first few appearances on U.S. thriller series Bates Motel, and she gave it another go for her new film, Me and Earl and the Dying Girl.
She recently admitted putting on an American twang now has become "second nature" to her and she was reported to have used U.S. TV shows like Friends and Keeping Up With the Kardashians to ensure her accent is spot on.
She said, "The influx of American TV (in the U.K.) means I'm always trying to do a Rachel and a Ross thing because I watched so much Friends. We are always mimicking and trying to sound like the Kardashians and everything like that. My sister does a great Kim Kardashian impression..."
However, Cooke claims her comments were misinterpreted as she credits her dialect coach with her improved accent.
Addressing the Kardashian claims, she tells WENN, "That's not true at all. I said in an interview that my sister does a good Kim Kardashian impression and then all of a sudden, 'Oh, Olivia learned her accent off of watching the Kardashians (sic).' Not true!
"It's so annoying that things spiral out of control. But I have a brilliant dialect coach in Vancouver that's helped me with the accent."
