Muriel, Evelyn and Jean are just a few of a group of British retirees who decide to travel to India to stay at The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. After viewing the hotel's website, they are won over by how luxurious the hotel is and are soon on the first flight out of the UK.
Once they arrive in India, their autumn years get off to an interesting start when they meet the other residents of the hotel. Douglas is determined to enjoy his years in India and has already started sampling the cuisine. Muriel is not as keen as Douglas; even more so when the coach arrives at the hotel and they all discover it isn't as lovely as it was advertised on the website.
Evelyn; Douglas; Jean and Muriel deal with the eager to please hotel worker Sonny, large flies in their room and an elderly resident who keeps falling asleep at the most inappropriate times. With Douglas likening India to the coastline of Florida but with more elephants; and Sonny assuring the residents that the hotel is so good that they won't want to go, slowly but surely the retirees start to enjoy their time at the Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.
