Just four days ahead of their debut album launch Wet Leg have shared their latest single - 'Ur Mum'. The Isle Of White duo, fresh from wowing the crowds at this weekend's BBC 6 Music Festival in Cardiff, have dropped another slice of genius from - "Somewhere in the land of leg".
Wet Leg seem to have been an ever present musical force since they released their inspired debut single - 'Chaise Lounge' back in June of last year. They've been the darlings of both BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 6 Music, have been nominated for the BBC's 'Sound Of 2022', narrowly missing out on the prestigious prize to PinkPantheress, and have even delighted American audiences with their unique, irresistible sounds.
In a "tale written & directed by Lavaland" our main protagonists, Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers, are initially seen working in their local convenience store, fully kitted out in matching 'Angelica's' ("Good time's all the time") uniforms. Rhian, aka 'Fanny', is the till operator in the video whilst Hester stacks the shelves. The track and the video take a pop at an ex-boyfriend with lead singer Rhian saying - "I was pretty angry at way things had gone in this particular dynamic. It’s just a diss song I wrote to make myself feel better. It worked".
The comedic film was shot by director Lava La Rue who says that - "The ‘Ur Mum’ video was all about bringing the viewer into the Wet Leg world – sprinkling details throughout the visual that not only reference at least 4 songs off the album but also plenty of inside jokes within the band too...Artistically it shows where the aesthetic of American indie films like Napoleon Dynamite fit perfectly in the scape of rural British settings – this concept first came to me when the band took me to IOW for the first time – I saw the connection and it all clicked into place".
Wet Leg's eponymous debut album will be released on Friday 8th April via Domino Records.
